50th Celebrations Page
"Fifty Years of Gorey Little Theatre Group"
The year, 2001, marked the Golden Jubilee of the Group and the main celebration was to present the first play ever performed by the Group 50 years earlier in 1951.
The cast were new, but there were links back to those original performers who are still involved in the Group, including Michael Doran who appeared in the first production and who also appeared in the recent Summer Show, "The Field", playing the part of The Bishop.
Lennox Robinson's play, The Whiteheaded Boy was performed to packed houses in the Theatre Hall during mid October 2001. The final night was the "Gala Night" for the year. See our news page for journalistic comments on the performance.

The Producer/Director for this special show was Dolores Deacon (left), ably assisted by Ann Colgan.
Mark Sinnot (left) was Stage Manger, Clodagh Cecil was also Assistant Producer and played the part of Deliah Duffy, who marries Denis (The Whiteheaded Boy). Eddie O'Brien was in charge of Sound and Lighting.
David Warren (the Group's President) and Nancy Byrne provided the "senior love interest" for the show. They played the parts of Mr. Duffy and Aunt Ellen. Both David and Nancy have been members of the Group for more years than they will willingly admit to and have won many awards over the years. Their performances in this show were, as usual, excellent.
Malcolm Byrne, our present Chairman, and Esther Redmond (centre left) played the parts of Denis Geoghegan, and Mrs. Geoghegan, his mother. Mrs. Geoghegan's three daughters, Jane, Kate & Baby were played by Roisin O'Donaghue, Deirdre Redmond & Neile Kavanagh respectively. On the right is the "junior love interest" Aiden Ryan (Donough) & Roisin O'Donaghue (Jane).
